Kale chips are the perfect BBQ companion and healthy everyday snack!

BBQ season is here and kale chips are the perfect alternative to potato chips! Kale is low in calories and high in fiber.

In fact, kale is one of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet, with high levels of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants which improve overall health and prevent disease.

These chips are loaded with substances, such as sulforaphane, that help fight against the formation of cancer.

Finally a chip that you can eat by the handful utterly guilt free!

Ingredients

1 bunch fresh kale, washed, dried, remove stem pieces & tear into small pieces
1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
1 tablespoon melted unrefined coconut oil
1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Preparation

1. Preheat oven to 300°F with the rack in the middle. Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. In a small bowl combine coconut oil, maple syrup, salt and spices. Toss kale pieces with this mixture. Lay kale out on the baking sheet in a single layer.

3. Bake for 10 minutes, flip with a pair of tongs and bake for another 10 minutes or until crispy. Your kale chips will crisp up more as they cool. If certain pieces are crispy before others you can remove those from the baking sheet so they do not burn. Continue to bake those that have not crisped up.

Tip: For crispy kale chips you must remove the tough stem pieces and use the leaves only. Be sure to lay kale out on the baking sheet in a single layer so it can crisp evenly and not steam.
